General COVID-19 Guidelines for Families.
Students and Parents,
For several months the uncertainty of returning to school has been the forefront of much of the community. Many hours of discussions and plans were made and remade throughout the process. Throughout our plan development, we have consulted Health officials and guidance from the State Department of Education.
In an effort to do what is best for our students and community, we will postponed opening school to August 24th. Our main focus consisted of 2 main themes: 1) the safety of the students and the staff, 2) students’ quality of education.
Our county schools have worked hard to develop plans that are consistent throughout the county; however, each school functions differently and has to do what is best for each community. Our plan is very similar to what you have seen published by other schools across the county and state.
We worked diligently to prepare our staff and students for the 2020-21 school year. We continue to implement practices to keep everyone safe while providing a quality education to our students. We have guidelines and plans in place to avoid an abrupt shut down similar to what we experienced in the spring. It is possible that at some point this year we will have to shift everyone to a distance (blended) learning platform similar to what we did last school year. If that happens, we want to be ready to continue providing our students with the proper education they deserve.
Our hope is that we can provide a safe and positive learning environment for our students. This plan was developed with that goal in mind.
We are excited about our students returning to school this year and hope that we can keep them safe and healthy throughout the process. #beAlion

Schools are an important part of the infrastructure of communities and play a critical role in supporting the whole child, not just their academic achievement. Haworth Schools is committed to its role in slowing the spread of COVID-19 in our students, parents, staff and community. We will continue to review the recommendations/considerations on the state and national level. As in the past, we will continue to have students and staff evaluated by the school nurse, according to state standards, for signs and symptoms of infection, as well as providing other health services in the scope of practice. The following information on COVID-19 was collected from the CDC website and is meant to inform and consider. Recommendations are ever changing and should be reviewed often.
COVID-19 is mostly spread by respiratory droplets released when people talk, cough, or sneeze. It is thought that the virus may spread to hands from a contaminated surface and then to the nose or mouth, causing infection. Therefore, personal prevention practices (such as handwashing, staying home when sick) and environmental cleaning and disinfection are important principles that are covered in this document. See “How to protect yourself and others” at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/prevention.html.
