2015 Tulsa State Fair Scholarships

Each year the Tulsa State Fair presents scholarships to Oklahoma youth who have displayed their dedication to the continuous pursuit of acquiring agriculture knowledge.  Any high school senior who has previously participated at the Tulsa State Fair is eligible to apply. March 1, 2015, is the deadline to apply for an opportunity to receive a Junior Livestock Scholarship. You can download that application at, http://www.tulsastatefair.com/youthscholarships/index.cfm.

Tuttle FFA Wins National Western Meats

  

Tuttle FFA Wins National Western Meats Congratulations to the Tuttle FFA chapter as winners of the 2015 Meats contest at the Western National Roundup in Denver, Colorado. Team members are Samantha Burdick, Craig Dodson, Emily Boyer and Jarrod Halphen. They were coached by C. L. McGill, chapter advisor. A special thanks goes out to their sponsor, the Cherokee Nation, for providing a $1,000 cash award to assist with their expenses to the Western. The sponsorship was a special project of the Oklahoma FFA Foundation.

 

2015 Agriscience Fair Oklahoma FFA Association A Special Three Year Project Sponsored by Devon Energy $4,000 To be divided evenly among all qualified participants in the Agriscience Fair at the OSU State FFA Interscholastic competition in Stillwater, April 24, 2015. For example, if there are 40 participants (including teams of two), each participant will receive a $100 check from the Oklahoma FFA Foundation sponsored by Devon Energy. If there are 50 participants, each participant will receive $80 each.

The Agriscience Fair judges will determine if a project is qualified for participation funding. $1,000 Devon Energy is excited about the potential of FFA members selecting oil and gas industry related Agriscience Fair projects that will fit into existing Agriscience Fair categories such as Environmental Services/Natural Resource Systems, as well as Power, Structural and Technical Systems.

A $1,000 scholarship will be presented on stage at the State FFA Convention for the project selected by the Agriscience Fair judges that best relates to the oil and gas industry.

$4,000 To be divided evenly among the Agriscience Fair Division Winners at the OSU State FFA Interscholastic competition. There is a potential to be 36 division winners (including teams of two). For example, if there were 36 Division Winners, each participant will receive a check for $110 from the FFA Foundation sponsored by Devon Energy.

If there were 25 Division Winners, each participant will receive a check for $160. This would be in addition to a $75 check to all Division Winners sponsored by The Noble Foundation. Division Winners are recognized on stage at the State FFA Convention. Devon Energy will provide a dinner and tour at Devon Tower for all Agriscience Fair Division Winners, their Ag-Ed teachers/FFA advisors and their collaborating science teachers, on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, 5:30 p.m., on the evening of day one of the State FFA Convention. Devon Energy will provide the keynote speaker for the event and staff to serve as table hosts to visit with the students concerning their Agriscience Fair projects, other FFA interests and their future career goals. Following dinner, participants will receive a tour of Devon Tower. There will be a potential for approximately 75 FFA members, teachers and Devon Energy representatives. Details are pending on the potential of exhibiting some of the Division Winner Agriscience Fair tabletop displays at Devon Tower during the state convention.$1,500 During the OSU State FFA Interscholastic Agriscience Fair competition, FFA chapters will receive points based on the number of 1-2-3-4-5 th place entries each chapter had in all categories of the competition.

This will be called the Agriscience Fair Chapter Sweepstakes. The top three chapters in total points will receive a check from the Oklahoma FFA Foundation sponsored by Devon Energy in the amount of $500-$300- $200 and will be recognized on stage at the 2015 State FFA Convention. A traveling Sweepstakes trophy will also be purchased ($500) and presented annually to the winning Agriscience Fair Sweepstakes Chapter.

$3,000 To be divided evenly among the Agricultural Education teachers/FFA chapter advisors that had at least one qualified participant in the OSU State FFA Interscholastic competition in Stillwater, April 24, 2015. For example, if there are 15 teachers, each teacher will receive a $200 stipend from the Oklahoma FFA Foundation sponsored by Devon Energy. If there are 20 teachers, each teacher will receive $150. In multiple teacher departments, the teacher responsible for and signing the student’s Agriscience Fair application will receive the stipend.

$2,000 To be divided evenly among all high school science teachers collaborating with the agricultural education teacher in helping the participant develop their OSU State FFA Interscholastic Agriscience Fair project. If the high school science teacher’s name is listed as a collaborator on the student’s application, the science teacher will receive a stipend from the Oklahoma FFA Foundation sponsored by Devon Energy.

$4,000 The Oklahoma FFA Foundation will write a check on behalf of Devon Energy to The Noble Foundation in the amount of $4,000 for their efforts in developing and administering a 2015 FFA Agriscience Fair Summer Academy for Ag-Ed instructors via regional workshops. The Noble Academy Trunk Exploration Program will assist in this project. Year one would focus on training Agricultural Education teachers in proper research techniques and how to assist their students in selecting Agriscience Fair projects. Year two would train additional teachers as well as to develop training sessions for students to experience common science activities and to learn how to construct meaning and understanding to science concepts. Year three would continue to educate and involve students and teachers at a higher level. What an awesome opportunity!
