About Audie Smith

Welcome to our Haworth Secondary High School Library Website Page.

First, I love my family, friends, church, and school. I am married to Kent Smith. We have a son, Brent, daughter-in-law, Rachael, and daughter, Kayla. Brent is currently secondary principal for Haworth. Rachael is the high school principal at Valliant and Kayla is working for North Lamar Elementary at Paris, Tx. as a Speech Language Pathologist. Our entire family is dedicated to education and serving our community as often as possible. Haworth has been our home since 1990.

Second, I have thirty-eight years experience in education. My first seven years, beginning in 1983, where I worked as an Idabel Middle School secretary and three years as federal programs secretary in the administration building. After graduating from SOSU in 1993, I spent a year working with 4-year olds at George Elementary School. For my first eight years as a teacher, I developed a love of teaching, especially reading, as a 7th grade reading teacher at the Idabel Middle School. In 2000, I transferred to Haworth where I had the pleasure of teaching secondary English for eleven years. During two of those years, Haworth Schools offered a group of teachers an opportunity to attend SOSU on Saturdays where we earned master's degrees and reading specialist certification. Then three years later, Mrs. J. Jackson, Mrs. L. Driver, Mrs. J. Cox and I worked diligently to earn rigorous National Board Certification. NBCT is a wonderful program designed to help us drive students to become lifelong learners.

Later, due to the suggestion and retirement of a dear friend, Mrs. Cresie White, I attended East Central for one semester and later transferred and graduated from Northeastern State University in Broken Arrow with Library Media Certification. I am honored to be the Haworth Schools Librarian for the past eight years. As librarian, I look forward to assisting students with their research, education, and reading endeavors and writing grants that puts books and technologies in the hands of students. Also with the great support of our administration and staff, I am able to be director and teacher of the Haworth Academy After School Program. This program is benificial to many students in need. In 2017, I re-certified as a National Board Teacher in Adolescence and Young Adulthood English Language Arts, Ages 14 -18+. I can honestly say that working with the greatest staff in professional development and continuing education and teaching fantastic students lead me to my passion about education.

Finally, We want students to have access to a research/resource facility equipped with multiple technologies and print materials, learning and multi-media centers, and an expanded collection of books and reading materials. We appreciate the support of our parents/guardians and community members and look forward to working with you to inspire students to learn and to develop a love of reading. We will keep you posted.
